HISTORY OF THE NAME

Talk- true is an acronym for the above, this is spreading the true awareness of latent or developed talents of black people in diaspora and the knowledge that removing racism and realising the importance of equality for all is a vision which should not be forgotten.

This acronym came about because it is common in West Africa while conversing in ‘pidgin English’ to say “talk-true’ if someone says something unbelievable.
We aim to create an unbelievable connection and awareness about Africans everywhere, hence the name.
WHO ARE WE and WHAT DO WE DO?

Talk True, is a non-profit African organisation with emphasis on Africa which aims at boosting the image of Africans and highlighting other aspects of these peoples which might have been passed over in the spate of bad publicity.

The stichting Talk True is the brainwork of professional Africans and a few interested Europeans.

Talk True was founded by:
Mr Ambrose Nwadike MBA
(proprietor of www.iamafrican.com) and
Mrs Jumoke Olagbemi-Stekelenburg MIR MSc
(organiser of multi-cultural shows in the Netherlands).

The stichting or foundation came into being after months of brain-storming, in February 2001.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

To boost the image of Africans in a big way, by:

a) Organising the first ever Miss Africa pageant in the Netherlands and to show the contestants not only as pretty faces, but as talented, intelligent and cultured individuals.

b) The beauty pageant is to be named Miss Africa (Holland).

c) We aim to organise an award of distinction or excellence, annually, recognising the achievements of prominent Africans who have excelled in their fields in the Netherlands.

d) This award it to be called the Talk-true award for excellence’.

e) In addition, since we are aware that Africa is yet to be put on the map in the Netherlands, the advertisement for just a Miss Africa Pageant might not evoke much public interest, therefore, to attract a large audience, we aim to bring in each year, a prominent African artiste, in the calibre of Lucky Dube, Femi Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Aurlus Marbele, Miriam Makeba, Manu Dibango, Yvonne Chaka Chaka.

Currently, we are not actively involved in the solicitation for aid for Africa, but we believe that if we can show Africa in a different light, we will go a long way in shifting public opinion towards a more positive image of our people.

No more as a continent populated by drug addicts and carriers, a diseased nation, but rather one in which the good exists alongside the bad, just like with any other people.

Even though more than half a million people with an African background live in the Netherlands, African oriented events are still not commonplace. It is to this end and to fill this void that the idea of an African beauty pageant evolved.

This is an event which is planned to hold annually and be as prestigious as Miss Netherlands.

f) We also have other activities lined up including establishing a highly subsidised Information Technology (IT) training school for Africans.
Since IT is the quickest way to brigde the gap between continents, we deem it fit that the more African IT professionals there are, the better the chances of Africa catching up technologically.

Due to the growth of our activities, we need YOU to join us and make a difference.
